MoBazar (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application. We comply with the Mauritius Data Protection Act 2017.
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Account Information: Name, email address, password (stored securely in hashed form), and profile photo when you create an account.
- Seller Information: If you become a seller, we additionally collect your phone number, business name, business type, description, location (region, town, address), and expertise categories.
- Product Listings: Photos, titles, descriptions, prices, and categories of items you list for sale.
- Messages: Text content of messages you send and receive through in-app chat, including timestamps, sender and receiver identifiers, and read receipts.
- Communications: Messages you send to us for support.
Information Collected Automatically
- Location Data: With your permission, we collect your approximate GPS location to calculate distances to products and sellers and to enable location-based search. We do NOT track your location continuously or in the background.
- Device Information: Device type, operating system, unique device identifiers, and push notification token.
- Usage Data: How you interact with the app, including pages viewed, searches performed, and features used.
- Log Data: IP address, access times, and app crash reports.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and maintain the MoBazar service
- Create and manage your account
- Display your products to potential buyers
- Show you relevant products based on your location and preferences
- Facilitate buyer-seller communication through in-app messaging
- Send you push notifications about new messages and relevant updates
- Calculate and display distances between you and products or sellers
- Improve our app and develop new features
- Detect and prevent fraud and abuse
- Comply with legal obligations
3. Information Sharing
We do NOT sell your personal information. We may share your information in these situations:
Public Information
Your seller profile (business name, location, products) is visible to all users. Buyers can message you directly through the app.
Service Providers
We use third-party service providers to help operate the app, including hosting, data storage, and push notification delivery. These providers only access your data to perform services for us and are bound by their own privacy policies.
Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required by law, in response to a valid legal request, or to protect our rights.
Dispute Resolution
In cases of reported abuse or legal requests, we may access message content between users to investigate violations of our Terms of Service.
Business Transfers
If MoBazar is acquired or merged, your information may be transferred to the new owner. We will notify you before your data is transferred.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on secure, industry-standard servers. We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and secure authentication.
Message data: Messages between buyers and sellers are stored on our servers for as long as your account is active. Messages are visible only to the two participants in the conversation. Messages are NOT end-to-end encrypted — we may access message content for dispute resolution or legal compliance purposes.
Data retention: When you delete your account, your profile and listings are removed. Some information may be retained for legal or legitimate business purposes as required by Mauritian law.
However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential.
5. Your Rights and Choices
- Access and Update: You can view and update your profile information in the app settings.
- Delete Your Account: You can delete your account through the app, which will remove your profile, listings, and message history. Some information may be retained for legal or legitimate business purposes.
- Location Data: You can enable or disable location access in your device settings. Disabling location will limit distance-based features.
- Push Notifications: You can manage notification preferences in your device settings or within the app.
- Opt Out: You can stop using MoBazar at any time by deleting the app.
Under the Mauritius Data Protection Act 2017, you also have the right to request access to your personal data, request correction of inaccurate data, and object to the processing of your data. To exercise these rights, contact us at support@mobazar.mu.
6. Children's Privacy
MoBazar is not intended for users under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If we discover that we have collected data from a user under 16 without valid parental consent, we will delete that account and associated data promptly. If you believe a user under 16 has created an account, please contact us at support@mobazar.mu.
7. Third-Party Links
Our app may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these external sites. Please review their privacy policies.
8. International Users
MoBazar primarily serves Mauritius, but can be accessed from anywhere. By using the app, you consent to the transfer of your information to Mauritius and other countries where our service providers operate.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by other means. Continued use of MoBazar after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
